Hama Hama Oysters Review: A Hood Canal Birthday Visit

My parents visited Hama Hama Oysters in Lilliwaup, Washington, to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday. They came home impressed with the oysters and the setting—and their photos make it easy to see why. A nice October day, a meal beside Hood Canal, and time to enjoy the waterfront made this a birthday outing worth sharing.

About this review: This account is based on my parents’ visit, their feedback, and their photos. I did not attend this outing. Practical visitor information is drawn from Hama Hama’s official website and checked on October 8, 2026.

The oysters were the highlight

The strongest part of their feedback was simple: they thought the food was really good, and they were especially impressed with the oysters. That matters more to me than trying to turn their visit into a complicated tasting score. For this birthday meal, they enjoyed what they ate and liked where they were eating it.

Their meal photo shows fried seafood, fries, slaw, sauces, lemon, and a bowl of chowder. It captures the casual style of the outing: a tray of food, outdoor seating, and a view just beyond the table. Their feedback focused on how much they enjoyed the oysters and the meal overall.

An October birthday with a Hood Canal view

My parents also liked the area. The photographs show calm water, wooded hills across the canal, and outdoor chairs close to the shoreline. The view is a big part of the experience: you can spend time looking out over the water instead of treating the stop as only a place to grab lunch.

One of their photos even caught a bird perched just above the water. Between that scene and the open waterfront, this looks like the kind of outing where it is worth leaving a little time to sit and enjoy your surroundings.

The A-frame huts—and what to know about outdoor seating

The distinctive A-frame shelters stood out to them. They noticed that the huts faced east and mentioned that winds in the area often come from the south. That is their observation about the setup, rather than a promise that a particular table will always be sheltered from the wind.

The A-frame shelters are part of Hama Hama’s outdoor waterfront setting.

They reported heaters and fire pits, but no indoor dining area. Hama Hama also describes its Oyster Saloon seating as entirely outdoors and tells visitors to dress for the weather. A covered A-frame table can be part of the appeal, but it does not turn the visit into an indoor restaurant experience.

They had a nice day in October, which suited the outing well. For a fall visit, I would still bring layers and check the forecast. If an indoor dining room is important to your plans, keep the outdoor setting in mind before choosing this as your birthday destination.

A good setting for this family celebration

An 80th birthday does not have to mean a formal dining room. In my parents’ case, good oysters and an enjoyable waterfront setting made a memorable combination. Their photo together captures the personal side of the visit better than any restaurant rating could.

For another birthday outing, I would plan around the weather and the seating needs of the people attending. The ground in the photos is gravel, and Hama Hama asks guests with mobility concerns to contact the Oyster Saloon about seating options. That is worth doing ahead of time if uneven surfaces or picnic-table seating could affect someone’s comfort.

Food truck, Oyster Saloon, and Farm Store: know the difference

Hama Hama has more than one way to eat at the farm. The Stump Shack food truck menu is separate from the Oyster Saloon, which offers table-service dining outdoors. Check the service you want before making the trip; the farm being open does not mean every kitchen is operating.

The Farm Store sells seafood to take home and offers other food options when the Saloon or Stump Bar is closed. Its selection varies, so check ahead if a particular meal or product is the reason for your visit.

Would I put Hama Hama on the list for an oyster outing?

Based on my parents’ experience, yes—especially for someone who enjoys oysters and a relaxed outdoor setting by the water. The food was the main draw, but the area and the waterfront seating were a big part of what they liked.

The main tradeoff is the outdoor setting. Their sunny October visit worked out well; a cold or wet day could feel very different. Go prepared for the weather, make sure the dining option you want is open, and allow time to enjoy the view.

For my dad’s 80th birthday, Hama Hama gave them good food and a setting they enjoyed. I’m glad to share their experience alongside the other SLVRBCK Troop Reviews page.
