The best litter for a Litter-Robot 5 Pro needs to do more than control odor. It needs to form firm clumps, sift correctly, and keep dust low enough that the robot’s sensors can do their job.
I own a Litter-Robot 5 Pro, and one thing has stood out: even with litter marketed as 99.9% dust-free, I have still found dust inside my litter box. That label does not mean you can forget about cleaning.
For this comparison, I researched ARM & HAMMER Slide Platinum, PETKIT Mixed Cat Litter, and PrettyLitter Lotus Flower, focusing on robot litter box owner reports and manufacturer guidance. This is a researched buying guide with my own dust observation, rather than a controlled hands-on test of all three products.
Quick answer: Which of these three makes sense for a 5 Pro?
ARM & HAMMER Slide Platinum is the most straightforward starting candidate of these three because it is a clumping clay litter. PETKIT’s mixed tofu litter needs confirmation for your exact Litter-Robot model and formula. The non-clumping PrettyLitter Lotus Flower linked here is not a recommendation for the 5 Pro.
| Litter | Clumping? | My research-based take for the 5 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| ARM & HAMMER Slide Platinum, 18 lb | Yes; clay | Closest match to the recommended litter category; check dust, scent, and sticking in your household. |
| PETKIT Mixed Cat Litter, 7.9 lb × 2 | Yes; tofu/bentonite mix | Conditional choice. Compatibility with a PETKIT robot does not establish compatibility with a Litter-Robot. |
| PrettyLitter Lotus Flower, 6 lb × 2 | No; silica crystals | Skip for the 5 Pro. This is the non-clumping formula, and light-colored crystals present a sensor concern. |
What litter does Whisker recommend?
Whisker’s official litter guide favors clumping litter and identifies Lit Premium Cat Litter, formerly GreatLitter, and Tidy Cats Designed for Litter-Robot as its leading options. Its 5 and 5 Pro care guide recommends clumping clay.
For my 5 Pro, I would prioritize firm clumps and a dust-free or very low-dust formula. Low dust is a practical goal, not a promise of zero residue. Particle size matters too: clean litter must pass through the screen rather than end up in the waste drawer.
Whisker says some tofu litters can work depending on particle size and clumping. It specifically advises against PrettyLitter crystals for the 4, 5/Pro, and EVO because their light/translucent appearance can interfere with level readings. That distinction matters more than a general “automatic litter box compatible” label.
ARM & HAMMER Slide Platinum: The strongest starting candidate
View ARM & HAMMER Slide Platinum Easy Clean-Up Clumping Cat Litter, 18 lb, on Amazon.
Slide Platinum is a clumping litter sold with easy-clean and 99.9% dust-free claims. The appeal is obvious for a rotating robot: you want the clumps to release rather than smear or remain attached to the liner. Those are product claims, though, not a guarantee for every cat or machine.
In a February 2026 Litter-Robot owner discussion, several owners specifically praised Slide Platinum or other Slide formulas for odor control and reduced sticking. Others disliked the fragrance or still experienced sticking. The thread mixes formulas and robot generations, so it should not be read as a dedicated 5 Pro test.
My take: this is the first of these three I would evaluate for a 5 Pro. Watch for clumps that stay wet, litter on paws, fragrance your cat dislikes, and dust accumulating around the entrance. “Slide” does not make the liner maintenance-free.
PETKIT Mixed Cat Litter: Promising, but check the robot and formula
View PETKIT Mixed Cat Litter, 7.9 lb × 2 bags, on Amazon.
PETKIT’s 5-in-1 mixed litter specifications describe a plant-fiber and bentonite blend in 7.9 lb bags, marketed for fast clumping and low tracking. PETKIT also sells other formulas, including Clump+, so reviews of one should not automatically be applied to another.
Robot-owner feedback is mixed. In an August 2026 Litter-Robot 4 discussion, one commenter recommended PETKIT’s 5-in-1 mix for clumping, odor control, and low dust. But a PETKIT Purobot Max Pro 2 owner reported dust on the sides after cycling despite liking its smell and limited tracking. A December 2025 Pura X owner reported sticking with PETKIT’s mixed litter.
Those reports show why “really dust-free” and “low tracking” need real-world context. They also involve different machines. PETKIT supports mixed/tofu litter in several of its own robots, but that is not Whisker approval of this exact mix for a 5 Pro.
My take: confirm the exact formula with Whisker before switching. A good result in a PETKIT box is useful information, but the Litter-Robot’s screen and sensing system are different.
PrettyLitter Lotus Flower: Why I would skip this version for the 5 Pro
View the PrettyLitter Lotus Flower non-clumping product listing on Amazon. This link is included for identification, not as a 5 Pro purchase recommendation.
PrettyLitter’s Lotus Flower product information identifies this as a non-clumping silica formula. It absorbs urine instead of forming the removable urine clumps this comparison prioritizes.
PrettyLitter also has a separate clumping product. Its compatibility guidance distinguishes the two formulas and says the original non-clumping product may work in some Litter-Robot 3 setups. That does not establish suitability for the 5 Pro.
A long-running PrettyLitter and Litter-Robot 4 owner review has conflicting experiences. In a March 2026 update, the original poster still liked the regular formula but reported sticking with the clumping version; other owners reported poor results. This is older-model feedback, not a verified review of the Lotus Flower two-pack in a 5 Pro.
My take: the specific non-clumping Lotus Flower product is not the right recommendation here. A health-monitoring feature does not resolve a mechanical or sensor compatibility issue.
Why 99.9% dust-free litter can still leave dust
My own litter box has collected dust even while using litter marketed as 99.9% dust-free. I would not interpret that percentage as a guarantee that the globe, camera area, or sensors will stay spotless.
This is more than a cosmetic issue. Whisker’s 5 and 5 Pro error-message guide says dust, fur, or litter can interfere with sensors at the top of the entrance. Its cycle-interrupted guide also identifies debris as a possible cause of false detections.
If a cycle starts behaving differently, inspect the sensors rather than immediately assuming the robot has failed. Follow Whisker’s cleaning directions: gently wipe sensor lenses with a soft, clean, dry microfiber or lens-cleaning cloth. Do not bypass detection features to work around an error.
What I would check after changing litter
- Clumping: Does waste leave the globe cleanly, or break apart and remain in the bed?
- Sticking: Are wet patches or clumps staying on the liner?
- Sifting: Is unused litter being dumped into the drawer?
- Dust: How quickly does residue return after cleaning?
- Tracking: What ends up beyond the mat and on the floor?
- Cat acceptance: Is the cat comfortable with the texture and fragrance?
Keep the litter at the specified fill line, and record your cycle delay when comparing results. If clumps are still wet when the robot cycles, review the supported delay settings before blaming the litter alone. Compare actual refill use and cleaning effort, rather than assuming every advertised bag-life claim will match your household.

For a look at the machine I own, watch I Finally Got The Litter Robot 5 Pro! (Setup & First Look).
I also compare the machines in Testin Two Automatic Litter Boxes: Which Saves More Time?, featuring the Litter-Robot 5 Pro and Homerunpet CS106. These videos provide context about my robots; they are not a head-to-head test of these three litters.
My recommendation
Of these three, start by considering ARM & HAMMER Slide Platinum’s clumping clay formula. Treat PETKIT Mixed as a compatibility question to resolve before purchase, and skip the linked non-clumping PrettyLitter Lotus Flower for a 5 Pro.
The goal is firm clumps, correct sifting, minimal tracking, and as little dust as practical. My experience is that a nearly dust-free label still leaves you with cleaning to do—and the sensors are one reason that cleaning matters.
